Spring Semester Move-Out Procedures

  1. Residential students can leave campus at any point before the semester ends for housing.
      • Upon leaving campus, please fill out the Spring 2023 Check Out Confirmation form.
  2. Halls officially close for any student not approved for late departure, Senior Week, or summer housing on May 13th at 8pm.
  3. Any student, including graduates, wanting to stay during Senior Week MUST complete the Senior Week housing form by April 28th and be approved.
  4. Room and academic keys must be returned prior to your departure. Place ALL KEYS in the envelope that your RA will give you. Extra envelopes are available at key drop box locations.
      • Please confirm the information on the envelope:
          • Your Name — Last Name, First Name (Preferred Name)
          • Your Wheaton ID Number
          • Your building and room number
      • Once you are ready to leave your room, please return your keys to a designated Key Drop Location (listed below).
      • You are responsible for your keys. DO NOT give them to friends or roommates to return for you. DO NOT leave them in your room.
      • Mailed keys must be received by June 1st.
      • Failure to return your keys by June 1st will result in a $90 fee for the locks to be changed.
      • If you accidentally leave campus with your keys, please send them to:

  5. Personal belongings must be removed.
      • Please be cognizant of emptying your entire room when you leave campus. Access to your spring room will generally not be available and will only be granted in emergency situations.
  6. Go through the checklist
      • Doors & windows are closed, locked, and blinds are down.
      • Trash and recycling are emptied.
      • Lights are turned off.
      • Room/suite/house door(s) are closed and locked.
      • Drawers are checked for items such as chargers, passports, and medications are packed.
      • Command strips and tape have been left on the walls.
      • If a microfridge was rented, it has been cleaned and left in the hallway next to your door.
      • ALL KEYS are put in a labeled envelope and turned into the locksmith, Campus Safety, or an on-campus key box.
  7. FINALLY — Students should fill out the check-out confirmation form to let Residential Life know that you have left campus and returned your key.

  • Locksmith – Physical Plant (8:30am to 4:30pm M-F, May 22nd from 12pm to 8pm)

Late Departure

  • Students in need of extra time to vacate for travel reasons can request for one additional evening, which will grant you access to your room until:
      • 9am on Sunday, May 14th for non-graduating students
      • 9am on Sunday, May 21st for graduating students
  • Late departure requests must be made by:
      • Thursday, May 11th for non-graduating students
      • Thursday, May 18th for graduating students
  • Requests can be made using the Spring Late Departure Request Form. Failure to fill out the form in time may result in an improper check-out fee if you are not out of the residence halls when Senior Week / Summer housing begins.

Spring Move-Out FAQ

Can I leave items in my room?

No, students must vacate rooms and remove all belongings when departing campus. Failure to vacate your room by your move out time may result in an improper check-out fee.

What room will I live in for summer housing?

Summer housing rooms will be in the designated summer residence hall unless you are approved for another location.

Help! I can’t access any of the forms!

Remember that you must be signed into your Wheaton Gmail account to access the request forms. Try signing out of all of your Gmail accounts and then just sign into your Wheaton account. If that does not work, try accessing the forms on a different browser.

When do I have to leave?
  • Any student not approved for extended stay is required to leave campus by 8pm on Saturday, May 13th.
  • Students approved for extended stay and not approved for summer housing are expected to leave campus by 8pm on Saturday, May 20th.
What happens at 8 p.m. on May 13th and May 20th?

Residential Life staff will be preparing the halls for Senior Week and Summer Housing. This means staff will be entering rooms of those who are not approved to stay, completing an evaluation of how the room was left, closing and locking windows, and locking the door.

Can I leave on Sunday?

Students can request for one additional evening, which will grant you access to your room until 9am on Sunday, May 14th (non-graduates) or Sunday, May 21st (graduates). Requests must be made by Thursday, May 11th for non-graduates, and Thursday, May 18th for graduates by filling out this form.

What do I have to do before I leave?
