The Center for Social Justice and Community Impact, in collaboration with Alumni Relations and Academic Affairs, will be hosting Wheaton’s first ever Focus on First-Gen Week. This week of campus events will celebrate the first-generation college student community, an identity shared by nearly 20% of Wheaties! Events include:

On Tuesday (2/6) in Balfour Atrium at 12:30 pm, the Focus on First-Gen Week Kickoff Event. Student, staff, and alumni speakers will make brief remarks on what it means to be first-gen, followed by time to get to know your first-gen peers, network with fellow first-gen faculty and staff members, and enjoy gourmet snacks.

To close out our week of first-gen events, on Thursday (2/8) at 5:30 pm in The Lyon’s Den, first-gen Wheaton alum and renowned spoken word poet, Roxy Azari ’10, will be holding a poetry workshop and performance of her original work on the topic of identity. This will be followed by an open mic session for student performers, as well as a Den open tab for participants.

On Wednesday (2/7) at 5:00 pm an Alumni Panel in the Mary Lyon Holman Room, brought to you by Alumni Relations, will feature a panel of Wheaton alums who will discuss their experiences, as first-gen students during their time at Wheaton and beyond. A reception with hors d’oeuvres will follow in the Woolley Room at 6:30 pm.

Class of 2018, join the Wheaton Fund & the Senior Class Gift Committee for a FUNdraising Event to kick-off the tradition of the Senior Class Gift. This event is FREE. All attendees at check-in will receive an exclusive new t-shirt. The Senior Class Gift Chairs, Arielle Klopsis & Henry Lewis will present on how philanthropy through the Wheaton Fund has impacted your college experience and we will hear additional remarks from President Hanno.

Food and Drinks will be served and all Senior Class Gift participants will receive raffle ticket(s) to get the opportunity to win a FREE Senior Week Ticket.
