Ignite hope
Andru is from New York and is a member of the Class of 2019. He is an anthropology and business management dual major with a concentration in equality, diversity and social responsibility. This set of studies lines up with his core beliefs and values—it is a perfect match.
At Wheaton, he is carving out his own destiny. Because of the empowering encouragement of mentors and professors, he is gaining more confidence and realizing his full potential. Andru credits his work as a diversity and inclusion intern at the U.S. Tennis Open with introducing new possibilities in a world with many challenges. He says that “being comfortable with being uncomfortable” can translate into confidence. This semester he is studying abroad in Denmark. We so look forward to hearing about his time there.
Andru wants to make a difference within the entire Wheaton community. His experience as head resident advisor highlighted his leadership on campus. His participation in clubs that effect real social change on campus, such as the Black Student Association, helps foster relationships within the community. He is known as the unofficial mayor of Wheaton because the network he created is accessible to his professors and peers. Andru says, “I’m going to be remembered as someone who brought a lot of good into this world. That’s a promise I made to my mother and father—and I’m going to keep it.”
