HIV Prevention
Practicing safe sex, communicating openly with partners about sexual health, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help reduce your risk for HIV. Regular HIV testing can catch any potential infections early.
If you would like to be tested or discuss your HIV risk with a local provider contact Sturdy Health Primary Care–Norton or Citizens for Citizens. You may also wish to contact Fenway Health, an LGBTQ+ health care, research and advocacy organization founded by Northeastern University students and headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.
STI Screening
If you suspect you have a sexually transmitted infection, it’s important to get tested right away. Keep in mind that sexually transmitted infections do not always produce symptoms so it’s important to get tested regularly even if you do not have any symptoms of an STI.
Citizens for Citizens provides free, confidential screening through on-campus clinics every other week and at their office. If you have active symptoms that may be related to an STI, do not wait for the next on-campus clinic. Schedule an appointment at the Citizens for Citizens office in Taunton. Sturdy Health Primary Care–Norton also provides STI screening, but testing at this location will be billed to your insurance.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy tests are available for free in the Student Health Services office, located within the Sturdy Health Primary Care–Norton building on campus. If your pregnancy test is positive, you will be advised to have a follow-up test done either with Sturdy, Citizens for Citizens, or with your family doctor.
If you are pregnant and want to explore your options, call Health Imperative in Brockton to schedule an appointment: 508-588-3005. If you decide to terminate your pregnancy and need a ride to your appointment, please contact Student Health Services for assistance. If you need accommodations during your recovery, contact the Title IX office.
Sexual Assault
In accordance with Title IX, we strive to provide a prompt, effective, and fair process for addressing complaints of sexual and gender-based misconduct on campus. If you are a victim of sexual assault, it is important to get examined by a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE) within five days of the incident. To learn more about sexual assault prevention and interpersonal violence education on campus, connect with our Sexual Misconduct and Assault Resource Team (SMART). If you need emergency contraception, review this resource and then go to CVS or contact Citizens for Citizens.
