Our Health Services policies protect your privacy and rights when receiving medical and mental health care through our Student Health Services and Counseling Center. We strive to ensure you have access to the care and resources needed for your well-being, both inside and outside the classroom.

Eligibility and Required Documents

Whether you are an incoming first-year, transfer, or returning student, you must submit the required health documents and proof of health insurance coverage before arriving on campus and you must update this information if it changes over the course of the year. Failure to do so will result in a health hold on your account. Additionally, (as specified in the health forms and required by the State of Massachusetts) you must ensure your insurance complies with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and provides in-network benefits within the state.

Upon receipt of the required documents and proof of insurance, you will have access to healthcare services on campus, whether you are a full-time or part-time undergraduate, resident or commuter. That includes medical care provided by Student Health Services and our partner provider, Sturdy Health Primary Care–Norton.

Confidentiality

Your privacy is our priority. We abide by both state and federal laws to ensure all health records maintained by Wheaton College’s Student Health Services and the Counseling Center are confidential and protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Your personal health details will not be shared with your parents, family, friends, roommates, faculty or staff without your consent — unless there is a serious threat to your or someone else’s health or safety or a court order is issued.

Wheaton College partners with Sturdy Health Primary Care–Norton to provide you access to more comprehensive medical care. Please review Sturdy’s Patient Rights and Responsibilities policy for more information.

Equitable Care

We are dedicated to helping you access inclusive, high-quality health services that respect your rights, regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion, ability, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Our Student Health Services and Counseling Center staff strive to create a welcoming space where you feel respected, valued and supported. Our partners at Sturdy Health Services—Norton are also committed to equitable care.
