Wheaton students are an active bunch—about half of our students participate in varsity or recreational sports. And they have a lot of options to choose from. Wheaton is an NCAA Division III school, competing in the NEWMAC Conference, and offers 21 varsity men’s and women’s athletics programs, as well as more than a dozen recreational sports and clubs.
Whether you find your passion on the field, court, track or in the pool—or if you’re more inclined to head to the mountains and hit the trail—you’ll find sports and activities at Wheaton to keep you moving.
Our extensive recreational facilities include the Haas Athletic Center, the Clark Center and the recently renovated fitness center in the Balfour-Hood Center. You can take advantage of basketball and tennis courts, Selectorized/Nautilus circuit, plated-loaded machines, a 200-meter track and a 25-yard or 25-meter swimming pool. Outdoor facilities include a running and walking path, lighted tennis and basketball courts and playing fields. Throughout the year, we also sponsor a variety of fitness classes and activities—from kickboxing to Pilates.
Wheaton’s growing intramurals program includes co-ed teams for basketball, flag football, floor hockey, soccer, softball, table tennis and water polo. Intramural sports feature low-key competition and high-spirited fun. A highlight each year is the Head of the Peacock Regatta, when fearless Wheaton students attempt to propel their homemade vessels across the college pond.
