Wheaton’s enrollment momentum builds in Class of 2029 enrollment cycle

During the 2024-25 enrollment season, Wheaton College demonstrated its growing strength in attracting highly qualified and intellectually curious students from across the country and around the world.

For the Class of 2029, the college received applications from students representing more than 3,370 high schools from 49 states (including D.C. and Puerto Rico) and 149 countries. The total number of applications for the class reached 5,986, making it the second-largest pool in the college’s 191-year history.

The Class of 2029 enrollment cycle continues Wheaton’s growth trajectory, demonstrating the increasing interest in the college’s distinctive combination of a flexible curriculum in the arts and sciences with an integrated approach to experiential learning and life and career planning.

“Students are looking for a college education that provides lasting value and that is exactly what Wheaton offers,” said Walter Caffey, vice president for enrollment and dean of admission and student aid. “The teaching, scholarship opportunities and mentorship that our faculty provide to students, along with the Life and Career Design Institute’s programs that serve every student on campus, ensures that our graduates leave the college prepared for more than their first job. They leave life-ready.”

In the past three years, applications for admission to Wheaton have increased nearly 27 percent, from 4,697 applications for the Class of 2027 (fall 2023) to more than 6,000 for the Class of 2029 (fall 2025).

At the same time, the academic qualifications of students applying to Wheaton have also improved. Applicants for the Class of 2029 earned a 3.72 mean high school GPA and a middle 50% SAT range of 1250 – 1420. The academic strength of the incoming students, and the size of the pool, led to a 63 percent acceptance rate this year, marking continued improvement in that metric as well.
