Opioids – Combating Addiction with Chemistry

February 27, 2018 @ 6:45 PM - 8:00 PM

In the United States, overdose deaths from opioids have nearly tripled in the last 15 years. In 2016 alone they claimed more than 30,000 lives. Discover why this problem has become so widespread and how the power of chemistry can be used to fight the rising tide of addiction.
The Wheaton American Chemical Society will be hosting a special program this Tuesday, February 27th at 6:45pm in Mars SC 3147. During this program, we will tune into ACS broadcasting to learn about the chemistry of opioids, what makes them so addictive, and the treatments and medications being used to help those who suffer. This program includes talks, activities and giveaways that promise to be really fun, and it’s open to all-campus so feel free to invite your friends as well!!
