The 60-piece GWSO performs dance music from around the world, featuring selections from Stravinsky’s Firebird; Respighi’s Ancient Airsand Dances Suite No 2; Melanie Bonis’ Suite en forme de valses; and African-American composer William Grant Still’s Danzas da Panama. Charlotte Chuen, Class of 2020, also performs Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. Suggested donation $5.

Wheaton’s World Music Ensemble, directed by Sheila Falls Keohane, assistant professor of music, performs a variety of world music drawing on traditions from India, Ireland, France, Brazil and more.

William Hite is well known for his interpretation of Schubert’s magnificent song cycle Winterreise. Written in 1827, the year before Schubert’s death, this work is regarded as one of the most important vocal pieces of the Romantic Era. Hite’s visiting artist residence provides a special opportunity to hear the entire work in the remarkable Cole Memorial Chapel, a beautiful acoustic space that creates a connection between performer and audience.

Abena Koomson-Davis, Musical Director of the Resistance Revival Chorus, will bring the most beloved works of African American poetry into song with Wheaton’s own Voices United to Jam and other students for the whole community.  Discussion with Provost Renée T. White, Ms. Koomson-Davis, Olivia Bennisan ’19 (SGA President) and Candice Appiah ’21 (ICB Chair) to follow the performance.  All are invited to a special dinner in the Chapel Basement afterwards.

The ensemble, under the direction of Assistant Professor of Music Sheila Falls, presents a concert featuring styles of music representing a wide range of backgrounds and musical traditions from China, Brazil, Ireland and Cuba. Weber Theatre, Watson Fine Arts, 4:00 p.m.

The internationally-acclaimed string quartet performs a brand-new arrangement of Bach’s “Goldberg” Variations, as well as world premieres by Wheaton student composers and Associate Professor of Music Delvyn Case. Cole Memorial Chapel, 7:30 p.m.

Professor of Music Guy Urban performs a gala recital celebrating his retirement after 36 years on the Wheaton faculty. The program will consist entirely of music by the great composer Franz Schubert, and will include ensemble performances with Music Department colleagues including Ann Sears, Lisa Romanul, Sheila Falls, Zarina Irkaeva and Joseph Bentley. The concert will culminate in a performance of Schubert’s song “The Trout” by Wheaton vocalist Shiqiu Yang ’18, and a grand finale of his famous “Trout” Quintet.

The Wheaton Chorale and Chamber Singers, under the direction of Professor of Music Tim Harbold, present their annual spring concert. Suggested donation $10. Cole Memorial Chapel, 7:30 p.m.
