Russell is the author of What’s Hanging on the Hush (Ahsahta Press, 2018). Her work has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, jubilat and the Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day newsletter. She serves as the Assistant Director of the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics at the University of Pittsburg.

Filmmaker Frederick Wiseman will be on campus on October, 3, 2018 at 5:00 pm in the Holman Room. We invite the campus community to view his award-winning documentary, EX LIBRIS at one of the four scheduled show times on campus.
Professor Lazaro will give an evening performance on his major instruments, the marimba, and the vibraphone. He will also perform on the hand drums, giving an introduction to important rhythmical genres of the Caribbean and Latin American region, showing historical similarities and regional variations.
Composer, multi-instrumentalist, and scholar Tyshawn Sorey leads his highly lauded and category-defying trio of piano, bass, and drums. Sorey is a 2017 MacArthur fellow and has performed with musicians including Vijay Iyer, Steve Coleman, John Zorn and Anthony Braxton, as well as the International Contemporary Ensemble. “Here is an extraordinary talent who can see across the entire musical landscape.” —Alex Ross, The New Yorker. Brush Coat Cover, juried by contemporary art dealer Cade Tompkins, is the fourth biennial at Wheaton. The 2019 exhibition focuses on work that challenges, explores, and celebrates the definition and history of painting, collectively evoking an open-ended conversation on the medium.
