Cynthia Maricle, BSN, RN
Cynthia is the contact person in the Office of Health and Wellness for information regarding student health services, health insurance, and health-related issues. She is responsible for maintaining health records, monitoring immunization compliance, and providing health education and alcohol use counseling. As the college liaison to the on-campus, designated health clinic, Norton Medical Center, Cynthia advocates for students by collaborating with NMC providers and assisting students to access available health care. She is also a knowledgeable resource for a variety of on- and off-campus health care services and wellness options.
Cynthia is a graduate of the University of Rochester and, prior to working at Wheaton, spent 13 years as a registered nurse in acute care at Boston Medical Center and spent several years working in community health nursing.
Valerie Tobia, LICSW, MPH
Director of Counseling & Health Services
Valerie is a graduate of Wheaton College and was happy to return to campus as the Director of Counseling and Health Services in fall 2016. As Director, Valerie oversees all aspects of the Counseling Center and Student Health Services including programming, outreach, service provision, and training. Valerie also works with the greater Wheaton community to provide support, education and strategic planning to promote and build sustainable wellness on campus. As a Public Health Social Worker, Valerie believes in prevention, helping all people find feasible ways to integrate wellness practices into their lives, and individualized therapy targeted at helping people uncover their strength, truth, and sense of balance.
Prior to returning to Wheaton, Valerie obtained her Master of Social Work and Master of Public Health degrees from Boston University and has worked in hospitals and community-based programs focused on providing services to under-served populations impacted by health disparities. Valerie specializes in trauma, adolescent, young adult health and maternal and child health. When not on campus, Valerie likes to cook, travel, spend time with friends and learn about new cultures, history, and people.
