Safe Zone Training
October 19, 2017 @ 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
The Safe Zone team is planning to have a Safe Zone training for staff and faculty on Thursday, October 19 from 4–6 p.m. in Meneely 307.
Here is what we hope you will gain from it:
- Increase knowledge and clarification of any terms and definitions and needs of people in the LGBTQ+ community
- Understand how to be an effective ally to LGBTQ+ staff and students by being supportive and affirming
- Know how to confront anti-LGBTQ bias and homophobic comments
- Identify resources and learn what to do if anyone who comes out to you or for anyone who is openly out.
Anyone who has already earned a Safe Zone placard is encouraged to re-register, as there have been changes to the presentation since last year, and we have created a new placard.
The basis for this presentation has come from the former Safe Zone Project at Wheaton over the past five years, the University of Rhode Island Gender and Sexuality Center (first independent standing LGBTQ center at a college in the world), and the Safe Zone Project.
