The Ellison Speaker Fund began in 2007 in honor of Herbert R. Ellison, Emeritus Professor of Chemistry, who supported Phi Beta Kappa actively during his more than 40 year career. Since that time, students and faculty have been able to bring speakers to campus or host events that realize Phi Beta Kappa’s ambition to promote intellectual curiosity and debate. Those who wish to find out more information or apply for funding can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here are a few of the events we have supported with the help of the Ellison Fund:
Professor Jessica Gordon-Roth (Graduate Center, CUNY) “Locke on Persons” October 2014.
Professor Gina Walker (New School for Social Research) “The Two Marys: Hays Transforms Wollstonecraft’s Female Biography” March 2014.
Professor Steven Gimbel (Gettysburgh College) “Einstein’s Jewish Science: Physics at the Intersection of Politics and Religion” February 2013.
“Practicing Medicine and Practicing the Humanities,” a Physician’s Roundtable hosted by the Wheaton Institute for the Interdisciplinary Humanities. February 2013
