Welcome to the Wheaton College Counseling Center

We’re glad you’re visiting!

The Counseling Center’s mission is to decrease emotional, psychological or behavioral barriers in order to support the intellectual growth and academic success of students. We strive to promote a safe and healthy environment for students by providing developmentally-appropriate, culturally sensitive assessment, diagnosis, recommendations and treatment to full-time students free of charge.

Counseling in the time of COVID-19

To protect students and staff during this time of social distancing, and in line with CDC and MA-DPH guidelines, all services through the Counseling Center will be remote and provided via virtual video teletherapy during the Fall 2020 semester.

The Counseling Center staff wants to remind any Wheaton College student we are still here for you. For students located within Massachusetts, virtual teletherapy services through the Counseling Center may be a good fit for you. For students located outside of Massachusetts, comprehensive and supportive case management services are able to be offered to help you identify appropriate care where you are living.

Any student, no matter where you are in the world, is able to access After Hours Mental Health Support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week anytime Counseling staff is unavailable. While this is not ongoing therapy, clinicians are on call to help you manage in the moment. You may call this FREE resource as much as you need, and language options other than English are available.

To discuss how we might be able to support you, or access our After Hours Mental Health Support, please give us a call at 508-286-3905 and follow the voicemail prompts to be connected to the right resource.

Services Offered in the Counseling Center

Counseling services are evidence based, best practice therapeutic interventions and structures for emerging adults within a Higher Education setting.  We follow state and federal ethical, licensure and legal requirements for provision of services and focus on meeting students we work with, where they are at.  The Counseling Center offers a variety of FREE services, including but not limited to:

  • emergency same day crisis evaluation, and intervention and referral when necessary
  • short-term, solution focused counseling
  • case management (referrals to off campus providers, groups, psychiatry, etc.)
  • alcohol/drug consultation and referral
  • outreach and educational programs, workshops, consultation and trainings for departments, groups and individuals on campus
  • referrals for medication evaluations

Ultimately, it is an individual student’s decision whether or not to accept the professional recommendations of clinical staff. Clinician’s value self-determination, personal choice and voluntary participation in addressing concerns and problems.
