Join us in building gender equity in Wikipedia!

The disparities in the representation of women and men in Wikipedia encompass all aspects of the resource. Only 15% of biographies on the English language Wikipedia are about women, and it is no secret that the majority of editors in the English language Wikipedia site are male, leading to fewer and less extensive articles about women or on topics important to women. Wikipedia is among the most visited websites, with 18 billion pageviews a month. This is where you come in; together, we can reduce the gap in the representation of women and men in this wildly popular resource.

How can you help?

Madeleine Clark Wallace Library, in coordination with the Women’s & Gender Studies program and the Women in STEM group, invites you to participate in our first ever Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on both March 26th and 27th from 3pm-7pm in the Woolley Electronic Classroom (WEC). Register (bit.ly/wheatonedits) for a one-hour slot, stay for as long as you like. We will provide the training and resources you need to contribute. New and experienced editors are both welcome. New editors can sign up here to create a new Wikipedia account; be sure to make your username anonymous.
Prize drawings will take place every hour and refreshments will be served throughout the event. If you have a laptop, please bring it with you.
