Latin
Language is central to culture. When you study Latin, you also learn about ancient Rome, its history, its geography, its people. While you might have never heard anyone speak Latin, you see its traces every day. The romance languages—French, Spanish, and Italian—evolved from these ancient words. Studying Latin has other benefits: its puzzle-like grammar appeals to math and music majors. Often found medical references and legal texts, Latin is also an attractive minor for students planning to pursue law or med school. Wheaton’s Greek, Latin and Ancient Mediterranean Studies department offers Latin minor and two majors: Latin or Latin & Greek.
