Whether leading a short-term study abroad program, teaching at a partner institution or collaborating on global research, our faculty bring vital global perspectives into the classroom to prepare students for a connected world.
Short Term Faculty-led Program
In our ongoing commitment to internationalize the curriculum and to develop new and unique international education experiences for our students, Wheaton faculty are encouraged to develop short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs.

Teaching Abroad
The Center for Global Education connects faculty with full semester and academic year international teaching opportunities.
Denmark International Study Program (DIS)
Faculty can spend a semester or summer teaching in Denmark through DIS , a leading study abroad institution affiliated with the University of Copenhagen. Faculty are compensated on a per-course basis and can teach within a wide range of academic disciplines.
IES Abroad (Multiple Destinations)
Wheaton faculty are eligible to receive a teaching grant for select IES Abroad programs . IES provides round-trip airfare, a teaching stipend and a housing allowance in exchange for teaching one course.
Wheaton in Bhutan
Our faculty also have the opportunity to serve as Resident Director for Wheaton’s semester-long study abroad program at Royal Thimphu College in Bhutan . This program immerses faculty and students in Bhutanese culture, service learning and the study of Gross National Happiness. Faculty leaders expand their teaching perspectives, collaborate with international scholars and experience personal growth in a society that balances ancient tradition with modern life.
Research and Professional Development
Through the Center of Global Education, faculty can access funded international seminars, research grants, and prestigious fellowship opportunities to advance their research and globalize their teaching.
CIEE Educator Opportunities
Through the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), faculty can access world-class study abroad programming, collaborative research opportunities and funded professional development seminars.

IES Professional Development
As an IES Abroad member school, Wheaton gives faculty access to exclusive global opportunities, including deeply discounted faculty development seminars around the world. Additionally, faculty can apply for research grants to spend up to a month at an IES Abroad Center, to pursue their own research, deliver guest lectures, and collaborate closely with international faculty.

Fulbright Programs
- Traditional Scholar Program: Grants for teaching or conducting research in over 100 countries. Approximately 800 awards are given annually to U.S. citizens.
- Alumni Initiative Award: Funding to sustain partnerships built during a past Fulbright project.
- Scholar-in-Residence Program: Faculty can invite an international scholar or professional to teach at Wheaton for a semester or full academic year.
- Fulbright-Hays Seminars Abroad: Short-term study and travel awards for faculty in the humanities, languages, and area studies.
