Roaring past the finish line

Run with Roary Virtual 5K a success

More than 250 runners, walkers and bikers logged 2,501 miles for the Run with Roary Virtual 5K, collectively raising $9,000 (and counting) for the Wheaton Fund.

Their efforts well exceeded the event goals of 1,834 miles (in recognition of Wheaton’s founding year) and $5,000 for fundraising, according to Marco Barbone ’09, senior assistant director of alumni relations affinity and engagement.

“I would like to thank all those who participated and took time out of their days to help the community we all love. The #RunWithRoary Virtual 5k had individuals from all over the United States, including Hawaii, and even two alumni from England joined in,” said Barbone, the event organizer and a former Wheaton student-athlete.

The Run with Roary Virtual 5K took place during the week of September 24 through 30. The event encouraged Wheaton community members to walk, run or bike at their own pace for the benefit of the Wheaton Fund, which supports academics, experiential learning, scholarships and more. Participants shared their progress, and their Wheaton pride, on social media using the hashtag #RunWithRoary.

The following individuals received awards in various categories:

Most Wheaton Spirit Award: “Wheaton sweeties” Kristin Ford Selesnick ’07 and Jeff Selesnick ’06

Most Miles by an Adult: Cyrus Greenspon P ’24 (126.89 miles biked) and Bev Loynd P ’24 (80.97 miles run)

Most Miles by a Wheaton Student: Aidan Westenberg ’23 (59.6 miles)

Most Miles by a Youth: Alyvia Begin (36.25 miles)
