Student Resources
Wheaton offers students many opportunities for help with their writing: peer tutoring, professional tutoring, and various writing courses.
Tutoring
You can schedule an appointment with a peer writing tutor. All of the peer tutors have successfully completed a one-semester tutoring course with Professor Susan Dearing. If you feel, however, that you need more specialized support, you may wish to contact one of our Writing Associates for an appointment.
Multilingual (ESL) students can find support for reading and writing with any of our Writing Associates. Professor Ruth Foley is the designated ESL specialist at Wheaton.
Writing Courses for Extra Support
All students have the option of enrolling in Basic Writing (English 010) as a supplement to required First-Year Writing. This is a half-credit course.
Multilingual (ESL) students may enroll in Writing for Multilingual (ESL) Students (English 060), a course designed specifically for non-native speakers. The course, taken concurrently with English 101 fulfills both the First-Year Writing requirement and the Foreign Language requirement. Students who have already completed English 101 are also welcome to register for English 060.
