1882- Bookstore/ Old Town Hall
January 16, 2011Harriet Augusta Newcomb presented the Old Town Hall to the town in 1882 as a tribute to her father, Nathaniel Newcomb. The College purchased the Old Town Hall from the town of Norton in 1982. Using the building for storage while it sought a developer, the College sold it to Douglas A. King Builders, Inc. in 1986. Wheaton repurchased the structure in 1990, renovated the interior and added an elevator tower. "The Old Town Hall Bookstore at Wheaton College" opened in 1992. More » -
1931-1995 14 Taunton Ave./ Oceans View
February 7, 2011Acquired in 1931, the house was remodeled into a two-family residence in 1932, using many fixtures and lumber taken from the demolished portion of Old Metcalf Hall. A porch was added in 1935. The barn was renovated into a practice, or "Little" Theater in 1932. The house was used for faculty housing until 1995. Oceans View was demolished during the summer of 1995 to accommodate the 1996 construction of a new Norton Medical Center established by Attleboro's Sturdy Memorial Hospital. 1975-1991 Alice Frey Emerson
January 13, 2011In 1975, Wheaton named its first woman president, Alice Frey Emerson, former Dean of Students at the University of Pennsylvania, who served until 1991, completing the Sesquicentennial Campaign (1983-1986), major building renovations and the construction of the new athletic center. She led the college's move to coeducation, from the Trustees vote "in principle" in January 1987, through the arrival of Wheaton's first coed class in September 1988, and into the transition. January 31, 2011Haas Athletic Center was completed in 1991, replacing Clark Recreation Center. Haas Athletic Center was named for Evelyn Danzig Haas, class of 1939, Trustee from 1977 to 1989. The Gymnasium was named in honor of President Alice F. Emerson upon her retirement from Wheaton. The natatorium was named for the Balfour family. More » -

1992-2004 Dale Rogers Marshall
January 13, 2011Dale Rogers Marshall, former Academic Dean at Wellesley College, was inaugurated as Wheaton's sixth president in 1992. Central to her tenure was the Campaign for Wheaton, successfully concluded in June 2000 with $90 million in support for the college including more than 70 new student scholarship funds, twelve new endowed faculty chairs, new programs such as the Davis International Fellows program, and the Jane E. Ruby Lecture Series, and several new facilities. The campaign was capped by the construction of Mars Arts and Humanities, renovation of Meneely and the renovation of Watson Fine Arts Center. More » -
1992- Gebbie Hall
February 2, 2011Built in 1992 and named for Marion B. Gebbie, class of 1901, and the Gebbie Foundation, this was the first dormitory built since 1964. The Stone Building Company designed and built Gebbie Hall. Martin Sokolov was the architect. Gebbie Hall was Wheaton's first residence hall designed to be fully handicapped accessible. Marion Gebbie devoted her life after graduation to her parents and to charitable works. She and her sister contributed to the Chatauqua movement, and established a charitable foundation with their patrimony. A dormitory built in 1992 and the College Archives and Special Collections in the Library are named in her memory and were donated by the Gebbie Foundation of Rochester, NY. More » -
1992- Davis House/ 9 Howard St./ Campus Shop
February 15, 2011The attached carriage house of this private residence was "The Campus Shop," a gift shop catering to Wheaton students from 1948 until 1992 when the College purchased the property. First used for faculty/staff housing, it was converted to a student residence during the summer of 1994 and later became the home of the Center for Global Education. More » -

Keefe Hall is perpendicular to Gebbie Hall, and its placement required the relocation of Fillmore Drive. Grounds work began in October of 1997.
