Wheaton becomes a college
Wheaton Seminary is granted a college charter by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and becomes Wheaton College. This caps a fifteen year long program of expansion and improvement. Ida Josephine Everett, Professor of English since 1906, becomes the first Dean of Wheaton College. The Student Government Association and Student Life Association are founded to represent the “consensus of opinion of the whole student body,” and to encourage individual responsibility, integrity, and self-government.
