Reverend J. Leavitt, Commencement speaker
The Reverend Johnathan Leavitt, D.D., of Providence, RI, spoke at Commencement. Leavitt was a lifetime member of such organizations as the American Seaman's Friend Society, American Colonization Society (to establish Liberia), a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of The Society for the Promotion of Collegiate and Theological Education at the West, and an Examiner in Intellectual and Moral Philosophy at Brown University,
