Jewish Studies

Jewish Studies is an interdisciplinary program that draws upon the breadth and depth of the liberal arts.

Jewish Studies at Wheaton provides students with an interdisciplinary approach to exploring the history and culture of Jews around the world, including Western and non-Western societies.

The minor draws upon courses from a variety of disciplines, particularly religion, history and political science. However, students are encouraged to cast a wider net, using the breadth of the liberal arts to explore the diverse world of Jewish Studies. Indeed, courses in the natural sciences, social sciences, the arts or languages and literature may also be part of the program.

Beyond coursework at Wheaton, students will find ample opportunity for collaborative scholarship with faculty as well as study abroad. Past and present student projects reflect the broad scope of this field, including Judaism and sustainable food movements;  dramatic and visual artistic representations of the Holocaust; Jews, the Bible, and comics; and Judaism, gender, and sexuality.
