About the field
In 2011, the college's Athletic Task Force Committee was asked to study the role of athletics in a Wheaton education and what those programs needed to be fully supported. The committee concluded that the construction of an artificial turf field was an imperative.
Since its beginnings in the 1970s, the field hockey team has had to rent space at a local turf field for its home games. The men's and women's lacrosse teams, both of which set program records in 2010-2011, are routinely forced to cancel games early and late in their seasons owing to the effects of weather on their grass field.
Home field advantage
The new facility will provide these teams with a home of their own. Diane C. Nordin and her husband, Tom Keller, have made a major gift to the project, and other generous alumnae/i, parents and friends have followed their lead. In order to reach the project fundraising goal of $3.8 million by June 30, 2013, we must keep up the momentum.
