About the Campaign
A Wheaton education empowers students to travel far beyond their known horizons.
Here, students explore knowledge through the wide-open lenses of the liberal arts and sciences. Students are encouraged to go beyond their familiar interests by investigating new subject areas and getting involved on campus and in the wider world. Guided by professors who become mentors and friends, students discover their true passion—which might be something they haven’t before imagined.
As one alumna recently said, “I am a believer in liberal arts education, and the notion that a broad-based education produces great thinkers.” A Wheaton liberal arts education is distinctive. The college’s holistic ways of teaching and learning draw upon a web of connections—across disciplines, across academic and experiential learning, and across lines of difference.
This approach has evolved from a vision that is as old as the institution itself. Early founder Eliza B. Wheaton’s hope for the young women of her seminary was “that as they come in contact with the world, it shall be the better for their having lived in it.”
One hundred and seventy-five years later, Wheaton remains true to this vision—and has grown stronger with each decade. Each step forward has happened because those who stewarded the college were willing to go beyond the expected and aspire to the extraordinary.
Wheaton's alumnae/i and friends are the stewards of the new century. Together, we will move Wheaton forward to serve today’s students and the generations yet to come.
