Experiential learning: “Since I am computer science major, I wanted to gain some experience working at an internet company so that I could know for sure whether I want to work in this field. The internship was at Roborock, which specializes in the research, development and production of robotic home cleaners and other cleaning appliances. The internship lasted for a full month.”
Duties on the job: “I had a number of responsibilities. In my role, I assisting the project manager with classifying and labeling photos of object videos through artificial intelligence and programming tools. I also created tools to improve the efficiency for processing images and XML [Extensible Markup Language] files, and wrote a guideline about special images labeling and classification for new interns and trained them.”
Navigating challenges: “I did encounter some problems with the coding that I had to fix. I had a problem inputting XML files to machine learning model because the XML files’ relative paths were wrong. I spent a few days learning about this and wrote a program to correct all of the paths. My favorite moment on the job was the moment my program fixed all the paths.”
Carving out a career path: “This internship in computer science is relevant, as my long-term plan is to work in the IT field. This internship gave me a lot of experience working directly for an internet company that will be helpful in establishing my career in the future.”
