It was a day of smiles, cheers and happy tears as the college community gathered to celebrate the graduation of the Class of 2013. Keynote speaker Nancy Gertner, a retired federal judge and lifelong human rights activist, urged the 372 graduates to "take responsibility for the direction of your country, for your neighbor's plight, for our really pernicious politics."
Gertner received an honorary degree from the college, as did distinguished alumnae Patricia Flaherty '83 and Diane Leshefsky Troderman '63. Flaherty is senior project manager for Mission Hill Neighborhood Housing Services in Boston, and Troderman is a noted philanthropist in education and Jewish culture.
Joining the parents, faculty and distinguished guests assembled at Wheaton's 178th Commencement were more than 400 alumnae/i celebrating their reunion.
