Campus Climate Survey
Wheaton College Student and Employee Experience Survey
In the Spring of 2025, Wheaton College conducted a Climate Survey pertaining to student and employee’s experiences and perceptions involving sexual harassment and interpersonal violence. The survey also covered the community’s knowledge of resources, reporting options and education related to bystander intervention.
The student and employee experience surveys were developed in compliance with the requirements of the 2021 Massachusetts Campus Sexual Assault Law. The College engaged Grand River Solutions (GRS), an independent, third-party administrator to facilitate this survey in line with the requirements of the aforementioned state law. The participation rate for the survey was 14% for students and 37% for employees.
The College’s data around student and employee knowledge of resources, understanding of procedures and awareness of the Title IX Coordinator was among some of the best responses in the country according to GRS. While any act of sexual or gender-based misconduct is one too many, it was also helpful to understand that our reported rates of sexual violence (ie: rape, sexual assault) were similar to peer institutions in Massachusetts and the country. The College will continue to be invested and focused on addressing incidents of harassment and healthy boundaries education with students. Overall, a majority of participants agreed that they feel safe and protected at Wheaton College.
The College’s SMART Team will serve as a task force as it relates to survey results. SMART’s multidisciplinary group of faculty, staff and students will create specific goals and engage action steps in response to information gathered from this survey. The College is committed to maintaining our strong work around policy education and sharing of resources with our community, while enacting new ways to help prevent sexual harassment, encourage active bystander intervention and support employees in their reporting obligations – all with the goal of a safe and inclusive living, learning and work environment for the Wheaton community.
