Wheaton's student film crew has trained its lens on a unique faculty-student research partnership. In the latest Wheaton InFocus video, they take a look at how modern DNA sequencing is being used to address an age-old mystery in the humanities. (View video.)

Math and fiction
Mathematics professor Bill Bloch has won a 2008 PROSE Awards honor for his book, The Unimaginable Mathematics of Borges' Library of Babel, which explores the mathematical concepts behind the short story. (Read more.)

Gallery openings
fig45.jpgTwo exceptional exhibitions will open in Wheaton's Beard and Weil Galleries on March 18 (opening reception at 7 p.m.). The student-curated Making It Modern: Wheaton College and the International Style traces the development of Wheaton's campus in the 19th and 20th centuries. Dorothea Rockburne: The Astronomy Drawings showcases the abstract painter's vividly colored works on paper. Both shows run through April 16.

The Wheaton community will gather in Cole Memorial Chapel to remember the life of Jeremiah Murphy, professor of political science and director of public affairs, who died suddenly on December 4. The service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., and a reception will follow. Alumnae/i and friends are invited to attend. FOR ALUMS

Grants for graduate study
Wheaton offers scholarships and fellowships to graduating seniors and alumnae/i. Amounts range from $500 to several thousand dollars. The application deadline is April 1. (More information.)

ATHLETICS

Four Wheaton swimmers qualify for NCAA championship
Four women swimmers have qualified to compete in a total of 11 events at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship, taking place March 18-21 at the University of Minnesota. Macalester College will serve as the host. (Read more.)
