Bhavleen Kaur '10 (left) and Jessie Chu Chu Pan '12 were two of the 12 Wheaton science students who journeyed to Yunnan Province, China, this summer to study traditional Chinese medicine with Wheaton Professor of Biology Edmund Tong. This photograph was taken during an excursion to the Stone Forest in Kunming, Yunnan.

"The costumes we are wearing are the traditional costumes of the Zhuang minority group of China's GuangXi province," explains Kaur. "The Zhuang women wear a variety of styles, including collarless, embroidered jackets buttoned to the left, along with loose, wide trousers cinched together by embroidered belts. The women are known for their embroidery skills."

For more on this faculty-led program to China, don't miss the forthcoming fall issue of the Wheaton Quarterly.
