CAMPUS NEWS & EVENTS
Student orientation
Orientation for new students begins on Saturday, August 29, and the schedule of events is available here.
Homecoming Weekend, October 2-3
Join us this fall for Wheaton's annual family weekend for parents, students and alumnae/i. Visit with Wheaton students, meet up with fellow parents and alums, and enjoy a variety of arts and athletics events. This year we will also kick off the celebration of Wheaton's 175th anniversary! (See weekend highlights and register online.)
Off to Spain
José Diaz '08, a psychology major while at Wheaton, has won a Fulbright Scholarship to teach English in Spain. Although his father is Chilean, Diaz did not hear a lot of Spanish at home as a child. He took it up in school, though, and became serious about studying it at Wheaton. Now he has a great appreciation for the power of language in making connections to other cultures. In addition to teaching, he plans to explore the impact of globalization on Spanish culture during his Fulbright year. (Read more.)
Summer reading
This summer, Wheaton's incoming students have been reading Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis, a two-volume graphic novel about a young girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Meanwhile, Wheaton's alums have been reading everything from classic fiction to books on contemporary politics. Learn more here, then tell us what you have been reading this summer. Inquiring minds want to know!

Tee off for the teams
The Lyons Athletic Club (LAC) will host its inaugural golf outing during Homecoming weekend, as the Wheaton College Alumnae/i Open is scheduled for Friday, October 2, at the Rehoboth Country Club. All proceeds will benefit Wheaton students and the Department of Athletics. The event will include 18 holes of golf with a cart, a reception and dinner, plus prizes and giveaways. (Read more.)
