Programming for the curious biologist
Wheaton professors Betsey Dyer (biology) and Mark LeBlanc (computer science) have written a guidebook, Perl for Exploring DNA, that serves as an introduction to computer-aided searching of biological sequences for researchers working in the emerging field of bioinformatics. (Read more.)
'The Humble Science'
Horticulture and sustainability will be the subject of a lecture on February 21 by author and horticulturist Barbara Damrosch '64. She is a columnist for The Washington Post and the co-owner of Four Season Farm, an experimental market garden in Maine that produces vegetables year round. Her lecture, "Horticulture: The Humble Science," is free and open to the public. (Read more.)
Do you take art with your tea?
Ten Wheaton students are showing their art work this month at New Civilitea, a teashop and art gallery in Salem, Mass., owned by Wheaton trustee Lou Ann Daly '76. Entitled "Welcome to My World," this second annual show features mixed media, paintings, photography and more. (Learn more.)

ATHLETICS
Big fun at the Big Event
The Wheaton Athletic Mentors, a leadership group of student athletes, will host the fourth annual Big Event on February 15 -16, with proceeds benefiting Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD). The alcohol-free weekend will feature a performance by comedian Joel Chasnoff and a fun-filled carnival. Anyone for barefoot wiffle ball? (Read more.)
