SUMMARY:Readings by the Writer—Robyn Schiff
DESCRIPTION:Schiff will read from her most recent book\, Information Desk: An Epic (2023) which is situated at the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, where she worked at the information desk in her young adulthood. “Nearly 30 years later\, Schiff transformed her experiences into an epic poem\, expertly weaving its collections of visual art and connections to the world into her life’s journey\, material world and imagination.” (Sara Patterson\, UChicago News) Robyn’s previous books include A Woman of Property (2016)\, Revolver (2008) and Worth (2002). She is currently a professor in the Department of English Language and Literature and the Director of the Program in Creative Writing at the University of Chicago.

SUMMARY:Reading by Donna Stonecipher
DESCRIPTION:The poet\, Donna Stonecipher\, is a translator\, living in Berlin. She is the author of six books of poetry\, most recently The Ruins of Nostalgia. This particular book is a series of prose poems remarking on her different nostalgic views on Seattle\, her hometown. And juxtaposing that to what nostalgia might mean to Berlin. Germany has a complicated history. And Berlin\, in particular\, where rebuilding has to account for its very recent history as a divided city.

SUMMARY:Prospects for South Korea-Japan Cooperation for the International Order
DESCRIPTION:Prospects for South Korea-Japan Cooperation for the International Order\nLeif-Eric Easley\, Associate Professor of International Studies\, Ewha Womans University (Seoul\, South Korea)\n\nMonday\, March 20\, 5:00 PM\nWoolley Room\, Mary Lyon Hall\n\n\n\nNorth Korea’s nuclear missile threats and China’s regional assertiveness make coordination between South Korea and Japan more critical than ever. Although relations between South Korea and Japan have often been strained over history\, they are better managed than either side is given credit. How are South Korea and Japan working to calibrate their policies toward China while coordinating with one another and the United States to preserve the rules-based international order? \nThis event is made possible by the Department of Political Science and the Diana Davis Spencer Chair of Social Entrepreneurship. \n\n\nLeif-Eric Easley is Associate Professor of International Studies at Ewha Womans University (Seoul\, South Korea). His research interests include contested national identities and changing levels of trust in the bilateral security relationships of Northeast Asia. He is actively involved in U.S.-Asia Track II diplomacy\, including with the Asan Institute for Policy Studies. His research has appeared in a variety of academic and policy journals\, supplemented by frequent analysis in major newspapers.\n\nIndividuals with disabilities requiring accommodations or information on accessibility should contact Jonathan Chow: chow_jonathan@wheatoncollege.edu

SUMMARY:Readings by the Writer: Sandra Yannone
DESCRIPTION:Wheaton alumna Sandra Yannone’s poetry amplifies the split-second when the everyday turns into catastrophe; the moment of impact when knowing and unknowing collide; the fusion of before and after. And the aftermaths. All constellate here in Yannone’s first full-length collection\, Boats for Women\, to orient us toward that “choice/to turn toward a sacred face\, a turn/toward your own longing to live.”
