DESCRIPTION:Join Leah Smith (Wheaton class of 2014) and Michael Townsend of the Providence-based Tape Art studio to help create an original tape-based mural in the Haas Concourse & Lobby of Watson Fine Arts. Tape Art has conducted hundreds of community mural projects\, highlighted most recently in Jeremy Workman’s award-winning documentary\, Secret Mall Apartment (2024). Training and materials will be provided free of charge; participants may choose to work in one or both of the mural project’s two-hour shifts. \nStudents interested in participating should email arts@wheatoncollege.edu for more information. \nThis event is part of Wheaton’s Fall of Freedom programming.

DESCRIPTION:a nerve is not a nerve but a bundle of fibers showcases seven contemporary artists\, Caroline Wells Chandler \, Pilar Sans Coover \, Gabrielle Ferreira \, Sean Paul Gallegos \, Sarah E. Jenkins \, Saberah Malik \, and Sarah Zapata \, all of whom are working with textiles in innovative ways. Though textiles are often thought of as decorative or functional\, the artists in this exhibition address complex ideas of identity and cultural history with large-scale crochet\, narrative embroidery\, deconstructed sneakers\, public sewing circles\, and traditional dyeing and weaving.
