Wheaton College Norton, Massachusetts

Katie Anderson

Activities? I am the music director of Norton Youth Theater and the Wheaton Whims.  I am also the assistant conductor of the Wheaton College Chorale and Chamber Singers.

Why Wheaton? I love the community.  I meet someone new every day and I am amazed at how many wonderful people fill this campus.

Favorite class/professor? One of my favorite professors at Wheaton is Tim Harbold, the conductor of Wheaton College Chorale.  As my adviser and conducting professor, he has done so much to shape me as a student and leader.

One of my favorite classes is one I am taking right now is Composition with Guy Urban.  I am so lucky to get the chance to compose my own music week to week and get advice from classmates and from the expert, Professor Urban.

Something interesting about me? Before I came to Wheaton I could hardly read music.  Now I am a senior music major going on to get my degree in music education.  I am immensely proud of how much I have learned here and will strive to continue learning for the rest of my life.

About my music. I have been a music major since my freshman year.  I play piano, sing and conduct.  This is my fifth semester as the music director for the Whims and my first year as the music director of Norton Youth Theater. Last semester, I taught music at the Nursery School as part of my Teaching Music in America class with Ann Sears. I love teaching music and can’t wait to go to graduate school to become a music teacher.
