My first solo show. The upcoming show is opens May 22, 2010, at the Taylor De Cordoba Gallery in Los Angeles. I was part of a group show at the gallery this past January and was then asked to do a solo show. I feel incredibly fortunate to have this opportunity. I have never shown my self portrait photographs from America and Ireland side by side.

My inspiration. I am inspired by the light, other artists, snapshots of my families’ history, the human condition and my precious moments of reverie, whether lying in bed or on a long hike. I am also very inspired by my memories of youth and my roots.

My style. I would describe my style as constructed narratives. I use intense light and a 4 x 5 camera which makes the large scale photographs look quite painterly.

The secret to success. Have faith in yourself. Trust your visions and ideas. Persist into the late hours. Create your own challenges and meet them, and be your own best agent.

Lesson learned at Wheaton. Trust your gut, but know that life will not be a painless journey. Those sleepless nights and days filled with anxiety are major points of growth and discovery.

Unexpected and lasting connections. I would have never imagined that my best friends would be from Haiti, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Spain. These friendships formed at Wheaton were and continue to be something I am very proud of and grateful for.
