The Mechanical Trades Group is made up of the Utilities Department, the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Department, and the Plumbing Department, who all report to the Chief Engineer.
The Utilities Department is the group of steam firemen and a mechanic who operate the high pressure boiler plant, which heats all the buildings on campus. It is manned 24 hours a day during the academic year. After the heating season, the crew of the power plant services the steam piping system campus-wide and the auxiliary equipment in the various buildings, including the power plant itself.
The HVAC Department maintains heating, cooling and refrigeration systems. This can range from fixing the refrigerators and ventilation systems to fixing bad thermostats and radiators in dormitories.
The Plumbers handle all domestic water and sanitary issues, from broken sewer lines to clogged toilets and dripping faucets.
There is also a Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator who is an employee of Woodard and Curran, but he works at Wheaton full time, under supervision by the Chief Engineer. The plant takes all of the waste water from the campus and treats it in accordance to State and Federal laws before releasing it back into the environment.
Requests for service may be made by submitting a work order through the Welcome page of insideWheaton.
