Student Conducting

Beginning conductors at Wheaton take the Conducting class to learn about directing groups of singers and instrumentalists.

Advanced study is available in private lessons, and our most advanced students have had the opportunity to conduct the Symphony Orchestra, the Wind Symphony, Chorale and Chamber Singers in rehearsals and performances.

Wheaton’s a cappella groups are student-led, providing directing and arranging opportunities for five student directors each year. Many of these students study conducting privately to learn more about directing groups. Wheaton students also serve as directors of the Norton Youth Theatre, which stages a musical each year with Norton middle school students.
