Re/Using Images

Copyright Concerns

Rules of Thumb

A) If you created the image (not just digitized it):
you are free to use it internally to Wheaton and externally.

B) If you found or digitized the image...

...And you plan to reuse the image, not created by you, for papers/presentations for class, internal to Wheaton, you are probably allowed to do so, under Fair Use.

...And you plan to publish or distribute your paper/presentation, or post it to the web, you should seek out permission to reuse the image, unless you are certain that it is Public Domain or has been expressly made available under Creative Commons.

Presenting Images

Both ARTstor and MDID allow you to link directly to their individual images on the web. You may also download their images and combine them with others that you have found or created, as an offline presentation - using Microsoft PowerPoint, Apple Keynote, ARTstor's Offline Image Viewer, etc. Again, any reuse of these images should be reviewed with the copyright concerns listed above in mind.
