DESCRIPTION:Delve into the past and present reality without parole in the U.S.\, drawing on the work of The Visiting Room Project and its first-person testimonials. \nThe panelists are: Marcus Kondkar\, chair of the Sociology Department at Loyola University New Orleans and lead creator of the Visiting Room Project. Alvin Catchings\, a Visiting Room Ambassador who served 32 years at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. Terrence Guy\, a Visiting Room Ambassador who served 28 years at Angola Prison. \nThe Visiting Room Project is a digital experience that invites the public to sit face-to-face with people serving life without the possibility of parole to hear them tell their stories\, in their own words. \nThis event is part of the speaker series of the Criminal Justice\, Restorative Justice and Criminology Program at Wheaton College. It is co-sponsored by the Sociology\, Psychology\, Political Science\, and Film and New Media Studies departments; Wheaton College Speaker Fund/SGA Finance Committee\, Office for Institutional Equity and Belonging\, the Marshall Center for Intercultural Learning\, Center for Social Justice and Community Impact\, and Peace and Justice Studies.
