These pieces are part of the Wheaton College Permanent Collection and range from photography to film to illustration. DESCRIPTION:Join Families for Justice as Healing on Thursday\, February 10 at 6PM on ZOOM to learn why we need a Jail and Prison Construction Moratorium passed AND how we can shift resources to create thriving communities where everyone has access to housing\, treatment\, health care\, education\, and economic development! \nAs part of the upcoming exhibition at the Beard and Weil Galleries\, Freedom is a Constant Struggle\, we are hearing from the nonprofit Families for Justice as Healing. The organization is led by incarcerated women\, formerly incarcerated women\, and women with incarcerated loved ones with the mission to end the incarceration of women and girls. \nThey are working on getting a bill passed to establish a 5-year moratorium on jail and prison construction and expansion in Massachusetts. DESCRIPTION:Wheaton’s music department is delighted to welcome scholar and journalist William Robin (UMD College Park). His talk is titled ““Minimalism Is History Now”: Bang on a Can and Minimalism in the Late Twentieth Century”. Professor Robin is a regular contributor to the New York Times\, and his most recent book Industry is now available from Oxford University Press. Robin’s research explores how institutions structure the creation\, dissemination\, and reception of contemporary classical music in the United States. His research interests also include early American hymnody\, Stravinsky\, and the European postwar avant-garde. \nVia Zoom\, no registration required.

SUMMARY:Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:International Holocaust Remembrance Day (Jan. 27th) marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp and is designated by the UN as a day to honor the great many lives lost in the Holocaust as well as reflect on our own roles in preventing this kind of devastation in the future. \nPlease join the Center for Religious and Spiritual Life with special guest Lori Gans\, for a Wheaton community reflection on the legacy of the Holocaust and what it means for an institution of teaching and learning. Lori Gans is a long time trainer for “Echoes and Reflections\,” a program dedicated to training educators across the nation to incorporate Holocaust education into their curricula using innovative teaching resources and best practices. \nRegister on Zoom
