DESCRIPTION:To Scatter or Sow: Diaspora in Contemporary Art serves as a central event for Wheaton’s campus-wide initiative to consider Diasporas: Economies\, Boundaries\, and Kinship. The title of the show is taken from the Greek root of the word\, and evokes not only the dispersal inherent in diaspora but also the potential for rich growth. Framing the multi-faceted idea of diasporas through the work of eight contemporary artists\, the exhibition includes video\, photography\, painting\, ceramics and text-based work. The exhibition will be presented both virtually and on the Wheaton campus. \nThe exhibition includes work by the following artists: Alina Bliumis\, Chinatown Pretty: Andria Lo & Valerie Luu\, Isabella Cruz-Chong\, Patricia Encarnación\, Michael Gac Levin\, Jodie Lyn-Kee-Chow\, and Crys Yin. \n \n  \nGallery Hours \n1:00–5:00 p.m.\, Tuesday\, Wednesday\, Friday and Saturday\n1:00–8:00 p.m.\, Thursday\nThe galleries are closed Sunday\, Monday\, and during college breaks. \nPlease note: due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic the galleries are only open to the Wheaton campus community. DESCRIPTION:This exhibition celebrates the achievements of the sixteen 2021 senior Visual Art majors\, who present their thesis exhibition\, (personal) space\, the culmination of a year-long capstone experience in the Visual Art program at Wheaton College. The exhibition is currently on view in the Beard and Weil Galleries in Watson Fine Art. The physical gallery is open to the Wheaton community Tuesday-Saturday 1-5pm. SUMMARY:2021 Wheaton Social Impact Conference – Day 2
DESCRIPTION:This is a unique event\, planned to coincide with Senior Week\, which  brings together students\, professionals\, members of the local community\, and the other interested individuals to think about the role of organizations in creating social impact.  Participants will be able to learn from distinguished practitioners and scholars working on the issue of social impact\, as well as from students and community members who are working to make the world a better place\, including participants in Wheaton’s Social Entrepreneurship Launch Program. \nOur opening session will include Mike Brady\, an inspiring speaker who is the President of Sheltersuit USA and the former CEO of the noted Greyston Bakery in Yonkers\, NY.  We will also feature several panels on different aspects of social entrepreneurship and social impact\, including an alumni panel with three graduates who are creating significant impact in their respective fields.  Finally\, we will we awarding for the first time the Aumna in Social Impact Award to Indira Henard ’03\, Executive Director of the DC Rape Crisis Center. \nThe links below include a mini-schedule for each day so that you can get an idea of the different conference events\, feel free to join any that you might find interesting: \nSocial Impact Conference\, Day 1 registration \nSocial Impact Conference\, Day 2 registration
