The organization is led by incarcerated women\, formerly incarcerated women\, and women with incarcerated loved ones with the mission to end the incarceration of women and girls. \nThey are working on getting a bill passed to establish a 5-year moratorium on jail and prison construction and expansion in Massachusetts. His talk is titled ““Minimalism Is History Now”: Bang on a Can and Minimalism in the Late Twentieth Century”. Professor Robin is a regular contributor to the New York Times\, and his most recent book Industry is now available from Oxford University Press. Robin’s research explores how institutions structure the creation\, dissemination\, and reception of contemporary classical music in the United States. The first photograph came from an antique store in Dallas. The photograph was of two men in a loving embrace mixed within random photos of a Dallas neighborhood from the 1920s. [Their] collection of over 2800 vintage photos of romantic couples spanning the 100 years between the 1850s and 1950s is the basis for [their] book. \nLOVING: A Photographic History shines a new light on the most written about\, dramatized\, or filmed emotions – love. DESCRIPTION:Non-Judging • Patience • Beginner’s Mind • Trust • Non-Striving • Acceptance • Letting Go • Gratitude • Generosity \nZen • Egolessness • Connection \nKendra is a qualified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Teacher-Level 1 from the Mindfulness Center-Brown University School of Public Health.  She has also received training to teach Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) for Life course through the Oxford Mindfulness  Center.  Kendra also is a Professional Life Coach with Certification in Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner (ELI-MP) and a BA in Psychology\, Family Studies and Counseling. Through Mindfulness Life Coaching\, LLC she uses her skills to partner with participants in group settings and one-on-one to reach more awareness  in their lives. \nKana Hattori lives in Japan and is a Certified Instructor of the Urasenke Tea Ceremony\, headed by Sen Soshitsu XVI\, Zabosai\, a 16th generation descendant of “cha-sei” Sen no Rikyu. While at the Kyoto University of Arts\, she wrote her graduation thesis\, “Kimono Attire and Appearance: Between Tradition and Modernity”. She has also studied Chado\, Shamisen\, and Noh.

DESCRIPTION:February 18–April 14\, 2022  \nThe exhibition title is borrowed from Angela Davis’s 2015 book and is focused on prison abolition. The work in the show centers on the perspectives of people who have been or are currently incarcerated. Each of the exhibited projects allows us to see the impact the carceral system has on individuals\, offering the viewer a chance to reevaluate their perspective on the dehumanizing and harmful effects of incarceration. But each of these projects also offers solutions in the form of information\, actions\, ways to connect\, and alternatives to incarceration. \nUltimately\, through the drawings\, video performances\, photography\, writing\, and gardens\, the exhibition encourages visitors to ask “What would a future without prisons look like? SUMMARY:The Lived Experience of a Female Entrepreneur in Japan
DESCRIPTION:An event co-hosted by Social Impact & Innovation Club and Theater & Film students at large. \nIn response to a declining birthrate\, the Japanese government has created a range of progressive policies that make it easier for women in the workforce to have and care for children while continuing their careers. However\, the focus of the government’s help has been always female employees working in mid-to-large corporations\, not female small business owners or female entrepreneurs. \nKana Hattori is a cultural entrepreneur who\, after 5 years as an in-house translator and 11 years as a freelance guide\, established “Mindfulness Journeys Japan” in March 2020. Kana’s  business has always been mission-driven\, driven by her love and respect for Japanese culture. She’s never lost sight of her goals and passion despite market volatility and huge declines of inbound tourism after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 and because of the COVID-19 in 2020 (and still ongoing!).  In this seminar\, Kana will frankly talk about her lived experience as a female social entrepreneur in Japan.

SUMMARY:Gallery Exhibition—Freedom is a Constant Struggle: Perspectives on Mass Criminalization
DESCRIPTION:February 18–April 14\, 2022  \nThe exhibition title is borrowed from Angela Davis’s 2015 book and is focused on prison abolition. The work in the show centers on the perspectives of people who have been or are currently incarcerated. Each of the exhibited projects allows us to see the impact the carceral system has on individuals\, offering the viewer a chance to reevaluate their perspective on the dehumanizing and harmful effects of incarceration. But each of these projects also offers solutions in the form of information\, actions\, ways to connect\, and alternatives to incarceration. \nUltimately\, through the drawings\, video performances\, photography\, writing\, and gardens\, the exhibition encourages visitors to ask “What would a future without prisons look like? What would it take to get there?” \nMasks are required in the galleries regardless of vaccination status. \nGallery hours:\nTuesday\, Wednesday\, Friday\, & Saturday 1-5:00 p.m.\nThursdays 1-8:00 p.m.
