DESCRIPTION:Drug Addiction: Real People\, Real Stories\nMassachusetts INTO LIGHT Project Exhibition\nAugust 27–November 8\, 2024 / Opening reception: Saturday\, September 14\, 2024 1-3pm \nWheaton College haves partnered with the national non-profit the INTO LIGHT Project to create an exhibition of graphite portraits\, personal items\, and written narratives of 40 Massachusetts residents who have died of drug overdose or poisoning. The INTO LIGHT Project is working to organize an exhibition like this in every state. \nOur goal is to help destigmatize overdose and substance use disorder and to open up the conversation about the opioid epidemic. The exhibition brings together medicine\, mental health\, public health\, and visual and creative arts. We are using art to connect\, humanize\, and heal. \nINTO LIGHT Project is national non-profit that creates exhibitions with portraits and stories of people who have died from the disease of drug addiction in each state. Their mission is to change the conversation about drug addiction through the power of art and storytelling. Wheaton College is the host of the Massachusetts exhibition. The people honored in this exhibition are from eleven Massachusetts counties and range in age from 18-39. We seek to eliminate the stigma surrounding substance use disorder and to address the misconception that people with addiction are to blame for their illness. SUMMARY:Lost on a Mountain in Maine—Screening and Q&A Session with Director Andrew Kightlinger
DESCRIPTION:The film adaptation of Lost on a Mountain in Maine\, produced by Sylvester Stallone and set for cinema release in 2024\, is based on the inspiring true story of a child surviving the wilderness. Andrew Knightlinger\, (a writer/director who was born and raised in Madagascar\, and then later South Dakota)\, will discuss the process of making the film\, as well as his experiences navigating the entertainment industry. In addition to Lost on a Mountain in Maine he has written/directed the prairie-set character study Tater Tot & Patton now streaming on all platforms.  He is also the recipient of the Slamdance Film Festival Grand Prize for Screenwriting.

SUMMARY:Winterfest 2024
DESCRIPTION:It’s part European holiday market\, part arts exhibition and music concert\, and all fun. \nCelebrate the winter season at the college’s annual Winterfest\, featuring horse-drawn carriage rides\, an indoor community craft fair\, illuminated ice sculptures\, food vendors; sweet treats\, photo ops and more. \nThe event will culminate with the Holiday Vespers Concert in Cole Memorial Chapel at 7 p.m.. Wheaton’s long-standing choral tradition for the holidays celebrates music of varied cultures and time periods\, and features the Wheaton Chorale and Chamber Singers under the direction of Assistant Professor Alexandra Lutkevich. The concert is free to the public\, but donations are gratefully accepted. \nAs part of the celebration\, the college will collect non-perishable food items\, hats\, mittens and scarves for the Norton Cupboard of Kindness. (Donation bins will be located in the Balfour-Hood Campus Center.) \nThis event is open to Wheaton students\, faculty and staff and their families\, and Norton residents. Parking for campus visitors will be available at Lot #2 on East Main Street (see campus map). \nThe celebration is sponsored by Arts at Wheaton and the Office of the President.
