Nelson Mandela once said, “What counts in life is what difference we have made to the lives of others.” That might well be your motto, Faith Nondumiso Khanyile. You have admitted to being driven to make a difference in the world and in the lives of those around you. Your dedication to that ideal is changing lives.
After graduating from Wheaton and earning an MBA from Bentley, you returned to South Africa, broke into the male-dominated world of finance, and worked your way up to the head of corporate banking at one of the country’s major financial institutions. And then you left to start WDB Investment Holdings, a firm that applies its profit to empowering women economically and socially.
Your firm’s vision is expansive: working toward a South Africa in which women are safe at home and in their communities, economically self-reliant and participating fully in creating an inclusive democratic and non-sexist society. It is working. In 20 years, your firm has transferred more than 150 million Rand to a trust investing in women-owned businesses and nongovernmental organizations serving South African women and families.
The impact of your work will be felt for decades to come. It is with great admiration for your vision, your determination and your accomplishments that we present to you with this honorary Doctor of Laws.
