English 208. Anglo-Saxon Literature

Students in this class will learn Anglo-Saxon, the earliest form of English. We will mix the study of language with the study of literature and by the end of the semester students will be able to translate Anglo-Saxon poetry. Readings will include famous and beloved poems such as Beowulf, The Dream of the Rood, The Wanderer and The Seafarer both in the original and in translation as well as prose texts and less well-known poems. The course is part of the Computing and Texts and Medieval Culture connections and is also a prerequisite for ENG 320: Beowulf. Wes ├żu hal!.
