Wait, I thought Wheaton was a secular college?
It is! The Center for Religious and Spiritual Life (RSL) is here to help students interested in asking complex questions about life and its meaning. That’s another way of learning about who you are and who you want to become at Wheaton and beyond. This may involve deepening your connections with your own religious tradition or exploring spirituality in a broader sense.
Located in The Base (downstairs in Cole Memorial Chapel), RSL is housed in the same space as the Center for Social Justice and Community Impact and shares its commitment to living out the best of our values in our actions.
How does it work?
RSL runs group meditations each week for anyone who is interested. Additionally, for those who are interested in the values and beliefs associated with political and social resistance, RSL runs weekly dissent devotionals as well. Stop by in The Base for the current schedule.
RSL also works with student groups and local partners to create opportunities for students to attend weekly religious services and High Holidays observances of many traditions represented in our student body, including Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Eid al Adha, All Saints Day/Dia de los Muertos, Diwali, and, of course, Holi. The Meditation Room downstairs in the chapel offers a quiet space for individuals and small groups to pray or meditate.
What can it do for me?
Part of becoming an informed global citizen is understanding the religious practices and beliefs that are a significant component of cultural identity for many of the world’s people. This process often involves learning more about your own tradition or background. Whether you are curious about other cultures, looking for a local worship community or finding out who on-campus is interested in exploring life’s Big Questions, RSL is the place for you.
