Sexual assault is a violation of state law and college policy. Wheaton views any form of sexual misconduct as a serious offense, and is determined to take whatever action is needed to prevent, correct, and, if necessary, to discipline behavior that violates this policy. Prosecution of students for crimes they commit, whether by the state or federal government, is independent of, and in addition to, the charges or disciplinary proceedings instituted by the college. Therefore, a survivor may decide to pursue criminal charges in conjunction with formal and/or informal campus options. The Wheaton College student handbook provides a complete description of the college’s sexual misconduct policies.
