Alumni Connections: Moving Beyond Wheaton

Posted on September 9, 2012

In the Spring 2012 Binh Nguyen ’99 came to visit campus as part of the Health Care Without Borders Alumni Connections panel sponsored by the Filene Center, the Office of the Provost and the Anthropology Department. Bihh Nguyen graduated with an anthropology major in '99 and now works as the Director of Global Operations at Intersystems a software company that produces a strategic healthcare informatics platform for hospitalsi.

For Binh, it was the impressiveness of Wheaton students he met on campus that led him to create internships. After the presentation, several students approached him with questions. “They were phenomenal, highly accomplished students,” he says. Nguyen worked with senior management to identify opportunities for the students. “We’re giving them real responsibilities, projects to lead,” he says. Anthropology majors Juliana Bennington '12 and Claire Rowell '12 began internships as consultants in the company’s marketing division whist Ian Lazzara '12 began interning in the sales division. In the summer 2012, Mengyang “Vicky” Li ’14, a bioinformatics major, worked in the company's technical support department.

“It was great for me to reconnect to Wheaton by helping these students transition from the academic to the corporate world,” says Nguyen.
