Kira Munk Wells '08 worked with an NGO in Beirut
Posted on January 28, 2010
Kira Munk Wells moved to Beirut after graduation seeking a career in development and a place to practice Arabic.
I work for BASSMA, a social development NGO, where I am the project assistant for our World Bank funded training program for young women to access employment, and assist with all aspects of program facilitation and evaluation. I am active in Public Relations and marketing, write the monthly newsletter, and whatever task is needed, in our small office of three people. Fridays are my favorite, as I walk through old stone streets to one of our soup kitchens to serve Mdardara or Yekhne to the 30–40 homeless and elderly people waiting for me with smiles on their faces.
As of January 2010, Kira was working to pursue a Master's degree in Development studies, and then a career with an international organization that addresses the plight of the refugees.
